Online Competitions

More and more online competitions are growing and growing in both size (of prizes to win) and number. As more Australians have gained internet access, it’s hardly surprising that competitions have gone down this track.

Less than a decade ago, most competitions occurred either in a shopping or magazine environment using a traditional paper entry method. Online competitions are now the most available of all competitions, which is both good and bad for the entrant

Online competitions have made it easier for promoters to create and manage. The end result is that online competitions can be created in a matter of minutes, and don’t require as much planning. For the competition entrant, this is a good thing, after all what more could you want than more ways to win competitions?

There is a downside, and making online competitions easier to create and enter means that the amount of entries a competition receives has also made the odds more difficult. Filling out paper entry forms took time to do, plus there was the cost of the stamp, walk to the post office and so on. With more people in the entry pool, it’s true that the chances of winning online competitions can be less.

Also, it’s fair to say that many online competitions are in the market that would normally not have been passed by various state permit offices. Words-or-less competitions (or anything defined as a “game of skill”) don’t require permits, meaning that almost anything can be flung out as an online competitions, good or bad.

Promoters who run poor online competitions rarely take the time to ensure that entrants can’t place 1,000 or more entries, just by hitting their back button. Practices such as this are unfair to legitimate online competitions entrants.

Our advice to entrants of competitions is that whilst it’s great that there are lots of online competitions to enter, take your time and select those that look to be the fairest, with prizes that you really want to win.
