Competitions 101 (online competitions for beginners)

NEW - Online competitions are a great form of entertainment with the potential gain of winning prizes (of course). To members that are new to entering competitions, we offer some very simple guidelines that you may want to take into account before starting to enter. These are covered in further detail below, however these provide a good summary. Here they are:

1. Read the rules - Don't try to rush through every competition you see, hoping that you're doing everything right.

2. Play by the rules - There's always the temptation to break or bend the rules of entry, but disqualification can be painful (especially if you lose a prize)

3. Be cautious with your information - If a promoter is demanding your mobile phone number, check the terms and conditions. Same goes for your credit card details.

4. Don't only go for free competitions - The odds are always better for competitions with some kind of "barrier", and requirement to purchase is one of them.

5. Try not to avoid skills competitions - Words-Or-Less competitions can appear daunting, but with some practice and common sense they can be very lucrative

6. Keep on top of things - At CompetitionsGuide.com.au we include a tracking feature (ticks, crosses, question marks) so that you can see what you have or haven't entered

7. Understand what competitions have a better win chance - This requires a little bit of research. You can always buy "Competitions-The Book", but simply reading our articles on the homepage will help

8. Be careful referring friends- By all means tell them about this site, but with "tell-a-friend" competitions, don't turn friends into enemies (or "frenamies") by spamming them constantly.

9. Manage your email - Entering competitions will result in a flurry of emails. Understand this, and read our article on the subject for more tips.

10. Support promoters - We are really keen on this one. If you support promoters who offer competitions, there will be more competitions. It's that simple

11. Have patience - Not always obvious, but if you stick to the basics the wins will come, and not always fast.

Finally, please consider supporting CompetitionsGuide.com.au by forwarding our site details to your friends. We are the only competitions site actually run by a "behind the scenes" person, and as a result are always in the ear of promoters wanting to run competitions. We can increase the number and quality of competitions in the market but only with your support!
