Where do people enter and win competitions

For a small population, Australia is an interesting country when it comes to differences between the states. When it comes to which states people like to enter and win competitions, this is no different. Firstly, NSW has by far the highest number of registered competitions, but that’s mostly because of strict permit rules and has little to do with the origin of where people will enter and win competitions.

In our experience we have seen that the two highest represented states have been proportionately (per capita) the lowest entrants in our competitions. This has also carried through from supermarket competitions run prior to CompetitionsGuide.com.au.

Using the same trend, we have found that Western Australia will out rate all other states. Queensland and South Australia are roughly the same, but again well ahead of NSW and VIC relative to population.

Even more interestingly is that the highest percentage of copies of "Competitions - The Book" have been purchased by Queenslanders.

Tasmania and NT are roughly in line with their respective populations.

Residents of the ACT have a more difficult time, and this is due to their government demanding a permit for all competitions. Although the same rules apply for NSW (and the costs aren’t great), there is a timing issue, and many times you will notice “residents of the ACT are excluded” somewhere in the terms of entry. Not exactly fair, but understandable.
