Complicated for nothing

My local train station, Stanmore, has just put an eftpos terminal in their ticket window. Before this, patrons had to remember to bring cash, which was annoying to remember the day before a weekly ticket runs out. Now, you don't need to , because you can buy your ticket by card.

Progress? Well, until last week regardless of the size of the line, it used to move quickly. Now it doesn't, and you need to get to the station early in case there's 1-2 card payers. Or, use the machine, which itself can take forever.

The reason I raise this is that sometimes things are added that appear to be a good idea at the time, but in fact either do nothing or make things worse. Website owners are just as guilty of this, and many times new bells & whistles are added just for the sake of it. Long-term members of Shoppers Bonus can vouch for the multitude of additions that have been made and removed.

Same thing for Twitter, which I can't be bothered updating any more. Has it added anything to the Shoppers Bonus experience? Not really. But it seemed like a great idea at the time!
