Sunny Boys, Pows and Razz's

Earlier this year, I was interviewed by Amanda Blair from 5AA. Radio interviews are normally stock standard (mispronounce my name, ask me what my biggest win has been ... even though I don't really enter comps), but this was cool because I got to take talkback calls.

Amanda brought up the question of Sunny Boys. The ice block, not the band. Remember them? Big concrete blocks of flavoured cordial in a triangle shape.

Sunny Boys were orange. Pows were ... yellow. GI's were green. Razz's were red. There was another flavour called Glug from memory.

Why am I telling you this? I liked them fine however the big hook was that every 10 or so would offer a "lucky" which was in 99.9% of the time a free Sunny Boy. I remember the gold writing on the silver foil inner, when you won a lucky you were king for a day.

I grew up in the NSW town of Cowra, and I still remember to this day the kid that won the ultimate bicycle prize. This kid was a legend around town in his shiny new Dragster (well, it was the 70's :)

And, if you think this story will end with me telling you that kid was actually me ... it wasn't. I can't remember his name, but I wonder if he still remembers his big win .... and I wonder if they still make Sunny Boys any more.

Yours Comp-letely,
