One last Polly Waffle?

I was semi-saddened to see the axing of Polly Waffles as reported today. The reason given was "Everybody says they love the Polly Waffle but the truth is no one buys it today. The time for it has been and gone." I purchased my last Polly Waffle chocolate in 1980 at a camping park in Bermagui on the NSW South Coast. To this end I still consider myself a dedicated fan, as the Polly Waffle has stayed as my 5th choice since then.

True, the Polly Waffle doesn't have any of the "quit your jibber jabber, fool" punch of Snickers. It's not as good for our health as the newly reduced in size Mars Bar. And it doesn't have the historic connection of Freddo Frog (invented by French Admiral Fredeaux Frogue in 1861 ... add this to Wikipedia if you like :)

But there's always been something kind of dependable about the Polly Waffle. It's a mainstay of the supermarket shelf, with our without a discount ticket.

And I just wonder what the confectionery counter will look like without it?

The demise of the Polly Waffle isn't going to have the same impact as Coca-Cola changing it's formula, or Chiko Rolls being taken off the shelves in the mid 80's. However in some minute way it still signifies the end of an era, and think about it ....... what new chocolate bar is going to come in and take it's place?

So, just for fun, if you see a Polly Waffle in your local store, why not buy one? It won't have a huge impact, but at least you'll be able to say you remember your last one.

And for me, 30 years is way too long between Polly Waffles........
